Restaurant-Style Burger

Cheeseburger with burger sauce and fries on a plate

If you love a restaurant-style burger or classic tavern style burger, this one’s for you. The patties start in the oven for even cooking, then hit a hot pan to finish—an easy, reliable way to get that crave-worthy seared crust at home. Ingredients

  • 2 lb ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)

  • 1½ Tbsp Kinder’s Tavern Burger Seasoning

  • Neutral cooking oil, for searing

  • 4 hamburger buns (brioche recommended)

Toppings

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 275°F.

  2. Start by preparing the beef. Gently divide the beef into 4 equal portions, about ½ pound each, being careful not to overwork the beef.

  3. Lightly form each portion into a thick patty about 1 to 1¼ inches thick. With your thumb, press a shallow indentation into the center of each patty to help prevent puffing as they cook.

  4. Just before cooking, sprinkle Kinder’s Tavern Burger Seasoning evenly over the exterior of each patty. Season both sides (and edges if desired), pressing lightly so it adheres.

  5. Place the patties on a wire rack set over a rimmed baking sheet. Transfer them to the oven and cook gently until the internal temperature reaches about 110°F, about 14-18 minutes. This low-and-slow step ensures the burgers stay thick and juicy.

  6. While the burgers finish in the oven, heat a cast-iron skillet over high heat with a small amount of neutral oil. Sear both sides of onion so well caramelized and tender throughout. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  7. Once the patties reach temperature, remove them from the oven and carefully transfer them to the hot skillet. Sear for about 1 to 2 minutes per side, until a deep brown crust forms.

  8. If adding cheese, place the slices on top during the final minute of searing and cover the skillet briefly to melt. Remove the burgers from the skillet and let them rest for a couple of minutes.

  9. Toast the buns if desired, then assemble the burgers with onions, Tavern Burger Sauce. Optionally, add Candied Bacon or your favorite toppings. Serve immediately with Kinder's Restaurant-Style Fries.
